Play Therapy

Credentialed as a Registered Play Therapist - Supervisor

As an RPT-S, I hold the maximum credential designation granted by the Association for Play Therapy, the largest professional association for play therapists in the world. This designation to granted to licensed mental health professionals who have extensive experience with children totaling more than 5000 direct contact hours of postgraduate clinical practice in addition to 150 hours of continuing education specific to play therapy.

Play Therapy:

Play therapy uses concrete objects and play based experiences for children to express their thoughts, feelings and behaviors in a safe and supportive way. The value of play therapy is established through years of research that shows its efficacy across age, gender and personality issues.

Parents also benefit from learning basic play therapy skills to help them understand their children’s symbolic language of play. Parents can develop stronger parenting bonds through learning the basic counseling skills of attending, empathy, active listening, and comforting responses.

Play therapy is a developmentally sensitive therapeutic modality in which a trained play therapist uses the therapeutic powers of play to help clients prevent or resolve psychosocial difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development. (Association for Play Therapy, 2003)
